EEK! Help...Interest charges on dental bill?

Can a dentist charge interest on a dental bill that was not covered by insurance. The dentist did not notify me before he started to do a crown that it would not be covered under my insurance. I stopped him when I found out and he only did half of the procedure. I explained to him that I should have been notified before that it would cost thousands of dollars. I had work done before and it was covered. I explained to him that I should have been notified before he started the work. ( Was it my fault or his that I was not told?) I started to make payments of 50.00 a month ( All I can afford due to my husband out of work at this time) He first said he would charge me half the amount for work done. I then get a bill with the full amount and interest charges, some are 17 dollars and others 35 dollars a month. I am furious. I am afraid he will take me to court so I have not said anything because I am not sure of my rights. I do not understand how he can do this, its not a credit card!

Please, any advice would be appreciated. Have a great day and god bless
