Confused Old Judgement, new Collection agency - can anyone help?

I am hoping someone can answer my question:

A collector for Bally's total fitness sued me (and won) about 14 years ago. I had a judgement on my credit report and it eventually expired (I never paid it).

Now all these years later, a new collector is calling me saying they are going to sue me again for this.

Is it legal to get sued twice for the same debt?

If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

No they cannot do that. If you take your old papers etc. to court the court will through it out.

The statute of limitations long ago ran out on this debt.

They can try to sue you but good luck to them and the Boston Celtics.

This is the trouble with collection agencies being allowed by OUR government to be legal. How does one know the debt wasn't paid to the original creditor YEARS before? That is just one question that needs addressing by our friends at the FTC.

Either ignore this new threat or send the collection agency a dispute letter asking them to VALIDATE the debt. They will not be able to do so and as thus, they cannot insert this on your credit report (pull it and make sure it's not on it) and they cannot harass you any longer.
