Collection agency turning me into a credit bureau

Can a collection agency turn me into a credit bureau without attempting to collect debt or contact me in anyway?

Yes they can if it is overdue.

Turn you in? As in arrest you? No, they cannot do that. They can, however, report (thanks to our "stringent" federal laws) the item to any of the three major credit reporting agencies. However, they must first send you written correspondence at least 15 days before so, and in their correspondence they must include that you have 30 days to dispute the validity of the debt or it will be considered valid.

I would suggest you ask them to validate the debt. Don't talk to a collection agency on the phone. Communicate ONLY through writing and always send your correspondence to them via USPS Certified Letter Return Receipt Requested, and make sure you write (or type) the certified number on your correspondence.
