How do i get this situation resolved?
I moved into my country home over a year ago and decided to get it secured by ADT. After installation and one year of no activity and me paying my monthly bills i got a telephone call from my neighbour telling me that my alarm had been activated. i called ADT to ask them of the situation and wondering why they hadn't called me! i was informed by them that they had no notification of an alarm and that they never had any "connection" to my home since last october, over a year! this would be rectified when they send out an engineer to "fix the problem". that was fine with me until they told me i would be charged for their services. i was furious. they have been charging me for services that they have not been providing and now want to charge even more for their incompetence. i was told that if i did not agree to the charge them i was canceling our contract. i said if that''s the consequences then that's fine with me. since then i've received a collection letter and telephone call from them for the cancellation of the contract (two years fees) plus cancellation fee. do i have any legal leg to stand on to challenge this? if so how best do i proceed with it. i just feel that justice and fair play is not being served. i reside in new york. |

Based on what you say here, you could file suit against them (or at least threaten to do so) in small claims court or in regular court; filing in small claims court is easier and requires no attorney...you could try to collect all of the costs and damages that you suffered due to their behavior... You may also report them to your state attorney general's office.
