debt collectors!!

a debt collector is calling me to collect on a cell phone bill which does not belong to me. they have absolutely no info on me (no SS#, no DL#)
The only thing they have is my address and my name (mispelled).
they asked me to get a police report and signed affidavit saying this is not my debt. Not worried about that. They are asking also for copy of my DL#, SS#. That doen worry me since I feel they can then use that to collect debt.
I don't trust them since the letter states that any info they collect from me can be used to collect debt.
Please advise.

You need not give them that info--give them just enough to verify the situation.

Olive is right, don’t entrust them your DL#, SS# and your other important identification. You said that It’s not yours so you don’t have to worry that much. They should have the accurate verification for them to file a suit against you.
