Default Stumped

MI. I'm being sued by an (alleged) old creditor dating back to 2002. The Attorney's handling this case has already asked the court for an extension to pursue as I discovered after looking into the Statute of Limitations. Six years for Michigan. Their time expired August 25, 2008 and papers for Judgement were delivered through the mail. My court date is October 17th and I have no proof this may have been paid.
In 2000 I became very ill. Underwent 10 failed surgeries and had to file for Social Security which was granted immediately & I was deemed unworkable. My only source of Income presently is Social Security Disability. My Income is far less than my monthly expenses and not only am I considered Indigent..I require the assistance of my sister to pay some of my bills so that utilities will not be shut off.
I really cannot pay this debt! I've written them letters to the Attorneys & the Court explaining that I simply cannot come up with any of it.
I'm going to court....unloaded. At their mercy. Can they touch my Social Security Income?
Thanking you in advance for your cooperation & any advise you give.
