Bad check

I recently was summoned for writing a bad check.

I wrote the check thinking my husbands paycheck was already in the account, but it was not. When I recieved the collections notice the check doubled in price, according to the letter I had 15 days to pay the check.

I called the next week to make a payment and they transfered me to the legal department. They indicated it was past the allotted time to pay so therefore I owed $385( 3X amount of check, and leagal fees). I told them I would pay the $85 for the $45 check that I wrote and they took a payment. Then they asked when I was going to make the rest and I said I was not going to pay it. They said they would reverse my payment and see me in court. They never reversed the payment, but I was summoned later that week.

I have to go to court tomarrow but am afraid I am going to pay dearly. I don't have this kind of $$. What should I do?

Show the court your attempt to pay; they have not acted reasonably and the court should agree --- you are not required to pay those extra amounts.
