We purchased a vacation holiday program while on holiday in Mexico. We cancelled the agreement (so we thought) the following day. After returning home to Canada we now find that they will not recognise this cancellation. We have paid a substanstial amount on signing but do not want to pay any more. The note has been sent to a collection agency in the U.S. Is there any way we can refuse payment without there being a suit against us?. We enjoy travelling to and through the U.S. and do not want to be stopped at any time by the U.S. or Mexican government.

You cannot be stopped for that issue. That is a civil matter.
You can argue there were misleading elements of what they said etc. They don't really have any damages if you cancel immediately and it is unlikely they will sue. |
