NSF Check: I received a check from a room mate

I live in texas and received a check from a room mate for their portion of the phone bill. The problem is it bounced. She has since moved back to Maryland and refuses to make it good. We also have a lease on the duplex and won't pay anything since she had left. I didn't get her to sign the lease when she moved in, it is under my name only. But on the lease papers it had a place to put who allwas living in the duplex. In the beginning, there were four people living in it and now only 2. Is there anyway to get her to pay the check and/or the lease? Is the only answer to go to small claims court and if so, how much does that cost?

Any help would be appreciated. Never had anything like this happen before.

You can also file a criminal law charge for the bad check.

I cashed my payroll check at a check cashing place and it bounced.Apparently my ex-boss refuses to make the check good. Now the check cashing place claims that the State of Pennsylvania allows them to file criminal charges against me for collection.Is this true? thanks,nash
