Hi,
I've recently found out from my wife that she accumulated a significant amount of debt on her credit cards and debt from the stock market. Below is a more detailed explanation of my situation. My wife has accumulated approximately $50,000.00 debt from credit cards. Additionally, I've been informed by her that she has accrued a substantial amount of debt, approximately $125,000.00 due to the unstable stock market. The credit card debt accrued is under her name, although I was aware of the situation (i.e., our family needed additional money in the last few years for living necessities). The stock debt accrued is also under her name in which I was unaware of. Therefore, the reason for this divorce is because my wife has accrued a significant amount of stock debt without my knowledge or approval. In addition, this marriage was established in NY and we have not signed a prenuptial agreement. My question pertains to: 1. The credit card debt my wife has accrued, will I be responsible for her debt once we divorce? 2. If she declares bankruptcy after our divorce, will I be liable for the credit stock market debt she has accrued? 3. Will banks/creditors/collection agencies look for me once we are divorced and she declares bankruptcy? Please feel free to give me more advice in regards to my situation above. Thank you in advance for any help. |
