Default DLA’s Amy Schulman Lands Top Legal Job at Pfizer

Schulman “shook her head ruefully. It was 10:30 a.m. on a Friday morning and she was still in her gym clothes, at her desk. She had risen at 6 a.m. to work at home on a brief and came into the office at 7 a.m. intending to pick up a few papers and go straight to the gym. But she had been waylaid.” — from 2006 profile of DLA litigator, Amy Schulman

If Amy Schulman’s schedule as a product liability litigator at DLA was cramped, it probably won’t be any less busy in her next gig. Today, Pfizer is expected to announce that, effective next month, Schulman, 47, will replace Allen Waxman, who left in March for personal reasons, as the pharma company’s new GC. The WSJ’s Nathan Koppel has the story.

Schulman, who in addition to defending Pfizer against lawsuits over Celebrex and Bextra, has rep’d GE and Altria Group, among other companies, and made a pretty penny doing it. Last year at DLA, one of the largest law firm in the world in the world, she pulled down $5.75 million. Though Pfizer didn’t say what her compensation would be.

Schulman will report to Pfizer chairman and CEO Jeffrey Kindler (also a lawyer), who says of his new consigliere: “Her knowledge of the legal, business and regulatory challenges facing the pharmaceutical industry and her experience tackling large, complex cases make her uniquely qualified to lead Pfizer’s legal team.”
