Default Guilty of Job Theft.

I recently did a terrible and stupid thing. I stole from a retail store
(wal-mart) and was fired in Nov 07'. I was not prosecuted but was
discharged. I wanted to know does that go on your job record? This is my
first time of doing such a thing and I have learned from it. I am just
greatful that they did not prosecute me. I am a single mother of a 4 year
old [whom I dont want to set a bad example to!] and my question to you
is,\"Does it stay on your record if an employer fired me for theft? If so
how long and will it hurt my chances for a new job? Is there anyway to
clear it?

I'm no expert, nor do I claim to be. So you were just charged and not convicted? If so, there shouldn't be anything on your criminal record for it. But, if you list them on your resume or job application, they may call them. Depending on what state your from, they may only be able to ask the dates you worked, and would they hire you back. Also, you could just do a check on your own through one of those web companies that do background checks.

I know this thread is old, but as a former salary manager with the company i can tell you that Wal-Mart does keep track of this. If you ever apply at any Wal-Mart store in the future they will run your social and it will tell them that you are not elegibile for rehire due to the nature of termination.
