Confused They said it can't be exspunged!

Can I get this exspunged? On 1/1/91 my boyfriend was pulled over for DWI on New Years Eve (both of us were highly intoxicated, me more than him), I held his arm and would not let it go. The officer told me to get in the car with my boyfriend and I did. My boyfriend was bonded out while I was let go by signing what I thought to be was release papers. On 3/15/91 I went to court. I was very scared, a 25yr working mother who had never been in trouble before, My only concern now was my child and what would happen to him if I went to jail, I am from NY and have no family here. I was told that if I pleaded guilty that I would not go to jail that is what I did. I had no lawyer did not know that I needed one. Now 17yrs later I have two degrees and can't get a decent job, I am trying to replace the job that I have because my doctor will not let me return back to corrections. I have been looking for a job since 2006. I have had employers tell me that was why. I know that I made some stupid irresponsible decisions two of them are: I did not think of what would happen to my son when I decided to get in that car drunk and when I held onto my boyfriends arm because if I had not held onto his arm I would not have gotten arrested.
Please find time to help me with the rest of my life.
