juvenile assault ontario, canada

my little brother has been charged with assault, and assault with a weapon( a basketball thrown) claimed by his ex-gf, these claims are false and she had a psychiatric past... now we hired a lawyer and we have paid htis guy 5000 dollars so far and he has done anything, he's telling us that this covers the pre trial and that the crown will give him 2 years of probation if he pleads guilty, if we say not guilty we have to go to trial which will be additional money... is there a way we can deal with this somehow without having to spend more money, the lawyer thinks 5000 is change but it's like 3 months of salary for something that my brother hasnt even done... he's 17, in ontario so im trying to find out what our options are, we were thinking of just saying he's guilty and get it over with 2 years but will the record go away and etc or can the charges be brought down... this kid is an honour roll student trying to go to unviersity... he changed schools just to avoid her

The lawyer could have set a fixed fee in that situation. So that you can budget your resources.

You may want to consult with others as well.

If you cannot get a deal that clears his record then you may want to go to trial and/or consider legal aid if absolutely need be..
