need advice or any input/thoughts about my future

So i was living in an oxford house which is clean and sober living, myself and another female house member were the two check signers on the houses bank account, over the course of two months we withdrew over 700 dollers (each withdrawl by one person me or her and we signed for each) from the account, not specific at this time which one of us withdrew more but i know it was like 750 total.
when the cops were called they only had one bank statement which proved 540. we were arrested for theift 2 misdeamener, booked and relesed. my court date is on 8-21-12, and hers a few days after. i wasnt concerned at first but i am hearing from people that the da, bank, oxford house, are all gonna be there and that apperantly she is turning on me, whatever that means, and im scared im gonna get the **** end of the deal, and it end up being a felony and jail time....also when i left the house id payed my rent over 400 dollers ahead. in the event of leaving an oxford house you are typicaly given this money back. i havent ask for it back because im ashamed of what i did.... shouldnt i still recieve that money? even tho i choose to pay it back in restitution? i have a two year old son and am very concerned about jail time, please tell me if i need to be seeking legal aid!

I wish to inform you that you can seek legal aid as criminal charges are involved. Further you can deny charges and argue that you have not violated the law. You will have to argue that the contents of the legal provisions to be applied against you are not satisfied. Further you can demand any money that belonged to you must be returned back.

You do NOT want to apply to Legal Aide for they only handle civil matters. A public defender is the attorney who represents in criminal matters and you are entitled to have an attorney present from questioning through court proceedings. I suggest you get one right away.

If you do not have an attorney by the 21st when you are due in court, your reponse to the judge should be, "I need an attorney. I am without funds for private counsel. WIll the court appoint one, please."

So I understand that you took funds from the account without authorization? That would be theft so you would definitely need legal council on this. It's just good for you I suppose that the amount in question was only 700 dollars.

You can seek community based organizations for free legal aid and legal advice. You can approach local Bar Association also.
