Confused forgery

my former friend broke into my house and stole three checks. he cashed two before i found out..i filled a police report and the bank contacted me when he tried for the third check. he left b4 the cops came..he left his id. the checks he cashed were 120$ and 80$. i got my money back from the bank. its been 3 nearly 3 years since. he calls the police dept to check for any warrants. he is sorry and wants to move on. i wish he could buti dont know. The cops have his id and havent tried to contact him the bank hasnt either. whats going on? Is it likely he will still be prosecuted? he has changed so i hope he gets lucky.

Yes he will be prosecuted if the prosecutor wants; you can ask to withdraw charges but the state decides.

He could be prosecuted, but if they have not acted after three years it is quite likely they decided not to move forward.
Might be best to let it fade away.

I assume he was never arrested--or was he?

What did they say about any warrants? If a warrant exists they will proceed when they find him.

Does calling the police department to learn if there are warrants out for you raise there interest in your actions?

They often will tell you that you need to come in and check --and they will arrest you if a warrant exists.
