I ripped off while I was purchasing a pound of marijuana

Hi, maybe someone on here can help me. I was recently ripped off for $1850 while i was purchasing a pound of marijuana (in CA and I do have a doctors recomendation, although there is a lot of ambiguity about the legality of purchasing marijuana even with the recommendation). I told my close friends what had happened and somehow word got around to a real scummbag who decided to rob the person who had ripped me off and profit from my misfortune. He did so (at gunpoint) and was arrested for it. $1200 of my money was taken into evidence according to someone who knows him. Is there anything i can do to get this money back without incriminating myself (I had NOTHING to do with the robbery and could prove it if I needed too). What should I do?

But if your purchase was 100% legitimate then you indeed may file a police report and seek restitution of those funds.

I don't think, even with a doctor's statement and in a medical marijuana state/country, that you are allowed to buy in that quantity. I think you are limited to a much smaller quantity when it is legal to purchase this drug. Just as you can only get so many pills from the pharmacy, you are allowed to only possess so much marijuana for personal medical purposes. This amount varies, and you would have to check local law, but is usually no more than about 4 ounces maximum. Possessing that much (a pound) probably could not be considered for personal use. It may be considered as a qualitity to sell, and would get you arrested for such. You should be glad you were not involved in the subsequent crime.
