Default Wife's in big trouble...

Friday my wife of 15yrs confessed to me that she had been questioned by the FBI requarding embezzlement. She has taken insurance checks that were meant for the doctors she worked for and deposited them into her own account (we have seperate accounts). Over $50,000...

The FBI had been investigating the wife of a doctor were she used to work for embezzlement. In this investigation, they discovered my wife had done the same thing and that when my wife changed jobs, she continued this theft at her new employer. Appearently neither doctor was aware of this.

When the FBI questioned my wife, she admitted to taking the checks. They asked her what MY envolvement was, she told them I had no idea this was going on (and I didn't). They asked her to write down that she had taken the checks and deposited them into her own account and sign it. She did, but also included that I had no knowlegde of any of this. They told her it would be 4-6 months before she was charged, she was looking at 12-18 months in jail and she needed to hire an attorney.

Honestly, over the past several years, I have questioned my wife about how she was able to afford certain things, she always had a reason and was able to explain it away. I feel like such a F___N idiot for not catching on to this. I can't understand why she did it. We didn't need the money and the best I can tell, she never used the money to improve our financial situation. She just blew it... I'm totally devastated by all of this and don't know what to do next.

I've told her that divorce is inevitable, but I didn't ask her to leave the house yet because we have a 13 yr old son and he doesn't need to know whats going on yet. We are now waiting to speak with an attorney.

My question, Is it possible that I may get in trouble along with her? I truely had no knowledge of this until now. Should I run, not walk, to a divorce attorney? What can I do to protect my son, I and our assets?

Also, will this be considered a federal case or will they simply turn it over to local investigators? She said the checks were all from private insurance companies, never medicare or medicaid???

Thanks

If they suspect you had any knowledge or involvement you may also be charged.

But based on what you say here, there should be no evidence of that at all and you should be okay. If you go to any questioning you should have a lawyer there. It is easy to twist words in those situations.
