I am a 16 year old girl about to be 17, I live in texas and I am dating a 19 year old, we are exactly 3 years apart. We have the same birthday, we haven't had any physical contact and we have been together for a year. I would like to know what can happen if my parents find out and if me and him are legally old enough to date without the laws getting into it?

There are no laws that define or restrict "dating" its when sex or sex contact (does not have to be physical) that the law applies. Those laws are state specfic and you did not name yours. However I can say that the parents of the minor in this situation have 100% control over who their minor child spends time with

You know your parents better than anyone else. It is never, ever, ever wise to be dating someone, sneaking around behind your parents back. No matter what the age, anyone you date should be someone you would be proud to introduce to your parents.
Three years age difference is not that much to many people. But he should be out of school where you are still in high school we presume? A difference in your lives at this point in time. What are his intentions? That is the first thing most parents want to know. Does he treat you with respect? Is he pressuring you for sex? Does he have a job? Is he in college? Is he someone you can invite to dinner with your family and be proud of him? Parents are protective of their daughters and do not want them to make mistakes by dating the wrong guys. So make a list of your guy's best qualities and look at him realistically. Is he someone you can bring home to your parents and be proud of. No matter what his age, if he is not, drop him. |
