Default I need help

I was charged wit Assesory to forgey because I took a check from my roomate that wasent his while serving at a restaraunt. What should I do I have never been in trouble or in jail and I cant afford a lawyer im a college student.

What do you mean a check was taken from the roommate? What actually happened? Had he allegedly stolen the check and then given it to pay at the restaurant?

The checked belonged to someone else but i didnt know that he had that persons checks.

Make sure you get counsel (or at least the public defender) to try to keep this off your record eventually--jail time is probably not likely if your record is very clear now. But having that arrest and/or a conviction on your record will make job-hunting etc. more difficult. Often this could be negotiated down to some kind of court supervision or even be dismissed, etc. If it eventually appears it cannot be negotiated down, please let us know.
