My stepdaughter has received a fax ordering her appear as a defence witness at the trial of a former boyfriend accused of assaulting one of his previous girlfriends. She lives in Connecticut and is ordered to appear in Massachusetts. Having no transportation of her own, this will probably entail missing two days work.
She wants nothing more to do with the former boyfriend and can ill-afford the time off work, let alone the travel and accommodation expenses. Does she need to comply with the order, and if so can she expect to receive compensation for travel costs and missed employment? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Not unless it comes from a court in her state or is a federal court.
And they normally need to pay for her to go. |
