Hi, I'm from Toronto, Ontario and to make a long story short, I was caught shoplifting about $150 from a department store in august. LP caught me, took me in the back, recovered the merchandise, the police came and didn't press any criminal charges and told me they were to charge me civilly (civil recovery). They let me go on the spot giving me a lecture but one of them was taking down all the information I had on me (including my car insurance slip, health card, student card). I'm guessing now I have a police record. My question is, how will a police record impact my future? Will I be able to travel successfully to the US and other countries? Will I be able to get a job that required a security check? Who sees this police record? If i get pulled over for speeding will the incident show up when the police look me up on the computer? Please, any help can help me right now. Thanks.

This record will not show up anyhwere you have concerns. In fact the Police may no longer have it as charges were not pressed. You can always pay to have a background check run on you to be sure but I am certain this will not gt in the way of any jobs, loans etc However you could try the forum below as they deal soley with issues like yours

I have checked that site. I find the admins on that site very rude and biased. Not helpful at all, but thanks! |
