Default Kentucky is changing the law restricting where sex offenders can live

A Kentucky Supreme Court ruling is changing the law restricting where sex offenders can live, and in some cases, it's giving some offenders more access to areas children frequent.

The law to keep sex offenders 1,000 feet from schools, playgrounds and daycare centers went into effect on July 12th, 2006.

On Oct. 1, 2009, in a 5-to-2 decision, the Kentucky Supreme Court ruled that it is unconstitutional to require sex offenders convicted before that date to abide by the 2006 law.

Sex offenders convicted after July 12, 2006 will still have to live 1,000 feet from schools, daycare centers and playgrounds, and they will still be required to move if one of those move into the sex offender's neighborhood.
