Odometer Tampering
2 Questions...First..when a individual moves to another state does he or she automatically become a resident after 6 months or do they have to have something legal like a drivers license or voters card to show that they have indeed become a resident on the date that is stated on the ID? If not couldnt anyone move to a state and be there for 2 weeks and say that they have indeed lived there longer?
Second. Is tampering with an odometer a Federal offense. If I knew someone that had a device that they installed on their vehicles and by a turn of a knob when the car is started inhibits the odometer from working, who would I call to blow them in. They are not good people and get away with ripping people off and breaking the law all of the time. Also when they would sell a car the actuall mileage would be about 200,000 off the true actual miles and the odomerter would have a false reading of 45,000 miles. I know that when you trade or sell a car you have to sign a paper stating that the miles or true and accurate to the best of your knowledge. Its sad that so many people get away with ripping people off. Thank you for your time. |

Residency is based on where you work and live--people do exaggerate but it can be checked. Utility bills, work records etc. can all be verified if need be.
Report such tampering to you local police as a first step. They will then direct you. |
