Confused Probation, divorce, and moving

I have a friend who is married and on probation. He hasn't yet been out of jail for quite a year and has 2 more years left on probation. He wants to get a divorce and get out of his current living situation however he is afraid to mention this to his PO because he doesn't know how his PO will react. He was in a halfway house when he first got out and that's the last place he wants to end up again. He is afraid that if he tries to get permission to move out of his current residence that the PO would make him go back to the halfway house until his new residence gets approved. He doesn't want to move out of state, just to another city. He just doesn't want his PO to think that he's becoming unstable in society since he hasn't been out a year yet. He is stuck in a tough position and doesn't know what to do. He wants out, but he's forced to stay because of his situation. Since he's been out he's gotten a great job, works hard, makes good money, hasn't done anything to get into trouble, is always at work when the PO drops by, always goes to meetings with his PO on time, etc. He's trying to get his life back. His PO isn't the nicest person either which doesn't help. Any advice? If he mentions divorce and moving to his PO, will he have to go back to the halfway house? Or will the PO be ok with him letting him know where he's moving and let him move there with no hassle? Any helpful advice is more than welcome!

Staying in an unhealthy marriage is worse; he should explain and the PO will understand if he is doing his job correctly--WLD could assist if need be.
