I really need some help here...please! This past weekend some friends of mine and myself went out for a few drinks and I drank one too many causing me unable to drive. Not realizing that I was even in the car was until I saw blue lights from the passenger side mirror. I was in the passenger side and one of my friends (who was intoxicated) was driving my car. I had never given the keys to him so I assume my girlfriend got them out of my pocket book and handed them to him so he could drive us home. WHY? I don't know!! Anyway, the driver and myself was taken to the police station and I was charged with....aid and abet impaired driving; fail to wear seat belt - driver...I don't understand the consequences of aid and abet when I wasn't driving and never gave the keys to him. Plus a fail to wear seat belt-driver (I wasn't driving). Now here's the thing....I have a passport and have made flight plans to fly to Canada on april 3rd. My court date is not until may 7th. Am I going to be able to enter into Canada. And is there anyway these charges could be taken care of before hand. I don't understand the aid and abet charge when I gave no keys....they were taken out of my purse. Would someone please give me advice??? Greatly appreciated...thank you

Having a charge related to driving and alcohol is awful, and many people probably do not really understand the day to day consequences of it.

It is not so easy to prove that all. So you should provide a vigorous defense.
But make sure you hire counsel and have him/her handle that, and negotiate some solution if possible. ...do not do that yourself. |
