Confused First time offender

My 16 yr. old son, who reside in a children's home in Kingston, NY and his roommate decided to awol on XX/XX/2008. The next day I found out that they saw a car with some keys inside and decided to drive it to the train station. There was no damage done, but the gentleman still decided to press charges (which I problemly would have also). Also, come to find out my son's roommate is at this home for the car theft already. My son is there because he wasn't going to school and smoking weed and not listening. He don't have a record, nor have he ever been arrested. This crime they committed is considered to be a felony. Does anyone know the outcome of this. He has to appear in court on December XXth. I m really worried about what will happen, even though I believe there should be some consequences, that will cause him to have back flashes, even though he is already scared. Can someone please help and answer my question. MOM
