possession of an altered weapon
What is the penalty of possession of an altered weapon? I know it's a felony but my brother was unaware it was altered and bought it as a stupid mistake. This is his first time really messing up, is there anyway he could get probation?

If he can truly show that he was unaware it is very possible he can get probation or even have it dismissed. Make sure you have an experienced lwyer involved to help negotiate that.
