I just recently got charged for purchasing alcohol for an underage person. Police came up to my friend and I, sitting on my car drinking. My friend being 20. We had 2 open beers. The rest of the pack was in my car. I admitted to buying the beer, but it wasn't for my friend. It was mine, in my car. He only had one. They gave my friend underage possession. Was my charge correct? Even though the beer was mine? I wasn't purchasing it for him. They never even asked who's car it was. I think they might have assumed it was my friends because he was a male.

Unfortunately if you bought it and he was then drinking it, you can be held liable.
You may want to hire counsel (or at least the public defender) to try to keep this off your record eventually--jail time is not likely of course but having that arrest and/or a conviction on your record could make job-hunting etc. more difficult. Often this could be negotiated down to some kind of court supervision or even be dismissed etc. If it eventually appears it cannot be negotiated down, please let us know. WLD, Jeff Rockwell |
