I need help or guidance with a life altering issue that I feel the government has no common sense in.
2 yrs ago my son (18 at that time) was trying to save a girl from being raped and possibly murdered at a park late at night. He tried to take her home to keep her safe and she refused. To make a long story short, she was suppose to be 17 and she initiated sex with him. A sheriff pulled up while they were in the act and she lied to the cop and said she was 16 when she was only 2 weeks away from 14! Her mom thought she was home in bed. My son went off to jail. He has pled guilty to unlawful sex with a minor because his public defender didn't feel he could sway the jury, took the lesser misdemeanor charge because of the way Colorado state laws are instead of a felony and 2 life terms due to the laws being just black and white based on age instead of the consensual that was the real truth and two stupid kid's. Now, 2 years later she writes to me appologizing for what she did to him and wishing she could clear things up for him but his public defefnder says it doesn't matter. He is going to be sentenced Nov. 6th. If there is any help or advise out there, please help. We have a kid here that was wrong in trying to help a girl, wrong for taking her away from the park at night, and wrong for being intoxicated but he did NOT rape her no matter what the legal laws of age are! We have lost faith in our legal system and hope to regain it. He has gone through 2 yrs. of hell over this and with everything considered, has paid his dues. HELP!!!!
