Bad check, 12 years ago
I received a phone call from the main office of a sevurity complany, where I recently started working about 2 months ago. They received a notice from the FBI background check that terminated my job. They told me they didn't know what was on my record and told me to check it out myself. I went to the BCA in St. Paul, MN and found out that the only thing on my record was a bad check back in North Carolina 8-12-1996. As I recall after 14 years of this, I was going through a separation with my former wife and the bad check was to her son that helped fix my car. I thought I had the funds in the bank to cover the check. And when the check came back, I told the son I would make it good the next paycheck. My ex. wife saw the opportunity to get me in trouble over a check so she encouraged her son to take out a warrant for worthless check that as far as I can remember was under $100 or even far less. I paid off the check at the police department that week therefore, it was on my record as a worthless check.
Does anyone know how I can get this off my record so I can get back to work? Or can you make any suggestions on who to talk to as I need to get back to work as soon as possible.

The DA will usually just let you pay plus some costs, and be done with it--give them a call or have counsel do so.

The bounced check was paid within the same week, but it shows up as a petty misdemenor. We have no money for counsel unfortunatley.

Visit the Clerk Of Court and file to have this expunged. It cost a little, but they will seal the file from the public if they grant this to you. Which they should...
