I have a friend doing 10 years for an AADW charge. He filed LID while he was
at the Beto Unit. I saw online that they have finally transfered him to the Michael Unit which is in the same region. I fear that he will have the same problem that he had at the old unit. What can I do to help him get either a shorter sentence (he has done almost 7 of 10 years) or released with time served. He was defending himself against his ex-girlfriend and being a man he didn't want to say it was self defense (the ego thing). I don\'t have the money so I would have to rep. him myself or find an attorney that would let me pay it out if it ain\'t too much. Thank you for your time and patients...Erica |

Did he have legal counsel at the time?

Re: 10 for AADW
Yes he did. But I would like to get an appeal but that would take a year before it even went to court. I don't have his legal paperwork but I am working on it. He is only allowed so many stamps in prison so he would have to send it to me a little at a time. How do I get the paperwork that I would need to either start this on my own or find representation for him to look at. I have the case number and the county, is that the court house I need to go to to get his court documents on his past trial? And would they be public record for me to get them? I would like to get all the transcripts, court reporter records and all litigations involved paperwork. Is that possible without being an attorney?
His life was threatened while he was at the Beto Unit in Tennessee Colony, Texas. So far I have gotten one letter from him since he has been sent to the Michael Unit in Tennessee Colony, Texas and so far nothing has happened. But I haven't heard from him in a week. Please help me. I am trying to save his life and trying to keep a straight head while doing this. All the help and advise is very well appreciated and welcomed. Thank you for your time and God bless. |

You are going to have to have legal counsel assist. It is next to impossible to handle that yourself.
Check with legal aid and also email World Law on the home page as they may be able to assign somebody as well. |

Thank you for the advise. I'll have to see what I can do with what I have. Thank you again.
