Confused shoplifting

My son's ages 12 and 14 were caught shoplifting at a local Target store. The items were estimated at around $100 in value which the store kept in thier posession. The charges were ultimately dropped by the local courts but Target sent me two bills charging me $300 each for the attempted shoplifting. Am I obligated to pay this?

Default Re: shoplifting

They are allowed to charge you by statute yes.

I suggest you pay and be glad it is done.
