My wife just took out a personal credit card for her father as the cardholder (card is in her name). Can I be held liable for charges made by him that are not paid since we are married. She has loaned him an extensive amount of money in the past that was never paid back and I am very nervous with this situation. I never signed anything since this is her credit card, but I am not optimistic that charges will be paid by him. Is there anything that I can do?

If you live or have lived in a community property state (Arizona, California, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Washington, or Wisconsin), you and your spouse in some cases may be responsible for debts incurred during the marriage, and the individual debts of one spouse may appear on the credit report of the other.
