Confused Student loan

I am a permanet resident alien of the United States and have a student loan debt in a foreign country. The loan is 16 years old and no payments have ever been made due to my financial difficulties. Can the foreign government still garnsh my wages or put a lien on my property here in the United States, or does a collections statute of limitations come in to play? I am planning to propose a payment plan, but would like to understand more about my situation before I negotiate.

They can still collect unless law in that country bars collection after x period. It is not the US law that controls that.

I highly doubt a foreign country can put a lien on your property in another country due to debt with student loans. I would contact a lawyer to get more help on this topic but I think you will be ok as long as its a foreign country.

Legally they can do it but it is hard to do and expensive and not likely for a student loan.
