Address the judge as either "judge" or "your honor" and always stand up when responding to a question in the courtroom; be polite and courteous when addressing a judge in a court.

Be sure, be ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN, that you NEVER address a female judge as "Ma'am." ALWAYS address her as "your honor."

Why can't I address a judge as "Mr. Smith"? I mean, are there laws for this, or is this merely common protocol?
