Default door to door sales dispute

I recently purchased a vacuum from a door-to-door salesperson (Alpha
> Distributing). At the time of purchase I was told that I had 30 days to
> return if I was not satisfied. At the time I signed a contract for
> financing through Beneficial. Shortly thereafter, I decided I did not
> like the vacuum, its performance does not equal its cost so I attempted to
> contact Alpha in writing requesting the return and I received no response.
> So, I contacted Beneficial who agreed with me and obtained a refund from
> Alpha and closed my account. I was then given an address to send the
> vacuum to by UPS, which I did and they signed and accepted the package.
> Several weeks later I receive a letter from a lawyer representing Great
> Lakes Finance, who I have no relationship to, demanding payment for the
> vacuum. I sent him a letter disputing the claim and requesting
> verfication of the debt. He sent me copies of the paperwork I had with
> Beneficial NOT Great Lakes???? I never received notice or cor
> respondence as to any assignment to Great Lakes, which technically goes
> against my original contract since it states that it can only be assigned
> to Beneficial. I contacted Beneficial and they said that they have no
> relationship with a Great Lakes Finance. He also states in his letter
> that I have until July 14 to pay in full or he will file suit. In the
> contract it also states that if there are any disputes, that both parties
> are required to go through arbitration which he obviously is not. Because
> of the \"assignment to Great Lakes, that I was never notifed of, are they
> going against any federal laws? Or a fair credit act??? I have a paper
> trail of all my correspondene throughout this whole matter. Also, I
> looked them (Alpha) up on the Better Business Bureau website and they have
> an unsatisfactory rating. I have also contacted the Attorney General\'s
> Office and I have been told that they have several complaints regarding
> this vacuum that they are in the process of r
> eviewing. I look forward to hearing from you, since he has only given me
> until the 14th before suit is filed. Thank you so much.
