Will I be sued if I do this:

I want to use a design idea I have seen on TV series "Star Trek".
The design it self is drawing of shapes and geometric 2D objects.
I intend to implement such a drawing on glass and idea is to sell those framed "pictures" into any market.
Of course I plan to do my own drawing of a similar type, "almost" same, but
certainly not COPY / PASTE them from any TV series.

I don't intend to use the official logo of Star Trek.

As I have been informed, Paramount holds copyright of all movies and series Star Trek, and
CBS TV is owner of everything else related to Star Trek, like merchandise having Star Trek logo on them.

Do I touch illegal waters if I do what I have briefly explained above, and can they sue me for such drawings, and selling pictures like these?

I have read that, geometrical shapes can not be issue to copyright....?
Note: While trying to sell these things, I don't intend to mention any relation to star trek, but people will do that them selves.

Do I have to purchase copyright license?....its expensive!

You have to use your judgment--if you are copying the idea from star trek then you need to get permission.

...if it is different then proceed. If your friends say that looks like star trek then you probably have a problem.

It is easy to ask for permission, just call their legal dept and show them your drawing.
