How legal is downloading music for free?

Is it illegal to download free songs? Even if the songs aren't in perfect condition?

I don't want to get in trouble so I'm not sure if I should just delete the programs altogether, or what.

It would take a lawyer (and many hours of time) to properly research each of the companies you have listed. However, generally speaking it is not legal to download music or other files without express permission. Some companies have gotten rather serious about prosecuting such cases in recent years, so your safest bet is to not download whenever you have doubt. AJJ

I agree--if it is not a paid service by a reputable well-known company, then it is probably not legal.

Kazaa and other file-sharing software are legal. However, the purpose many people use it for is not. Using it to upload or download copyright protected media -- music, videos, images, software -- without the copyright holder's consent is illegal because it is theft.
