Husband Getting Sued
My husband does home improvements. In NC they cannot do a contract for more than $30,000 without a license. He did 4 jobs for couple and the total was $44,000. They got about $60,000 worth of work out of him but they only paid him $44,000, when he finished the jobs and asked for the balance, they laughed at him and told him that they don't have to pay. Unfortunately even though they were separate jobs, he was still in violation. which he went to court, paid the fine. Now they have taken him to a different court and brough up charges again and want to sue us for the $14,000 that he got. I have 2 questions.
First, can they sue us for the $14, 000 difference (even though they got $60, 000 worth of work) and knew he wasn't licensed for that much. Second, if so can they come after my assets? We have only been married 3 months and I just bought a home (in my name) but it was after we got married? |

Normally they cannot benefit twice so hopefully no other judgment would be obtained...
