Angry what are my rights?

I purchased a car on 12/4/2007, and wrecked after one week. I went to the dealership and worked out a trade in deal, purchased another new car from them. They come back to me and request more money on repair cost one week later, which there is no written statement showing I would be responsible for further damage on the car. They are holding my new car registration paper work against this resolved issue. What are my rights? Does dealership has right to do so, since these are two independent events. THANK YOU!!
