Unhappy Automatic Debit Deductions Without Consent

When me and my ex were together we had Direct TV. The account was set up in his name and was set up on his credit card. I had through the years paid a couple of times online with my card. We are no longer together and he has let the account go delinquient. So Direct TV took it upon themselves that since my card has been used in the past to pay a bill to just charge the $200.00 that was left owed on the account. This was without my authorization to do so and at no time did I ever consent for them to do automatic payments of any sort. Is this legal for them to do this? I pay bills all the time online and every time that I do so I always have to authorize them to debit my account. Is this not stealing when they take money from an account when they were nto authorized to do so?

Yes.

...tell your card to take the charge back and that you did not authorize it

I had the same thing happen to me, Direct TV had taken over $400.00 out of my bank account without my consent. I tried to dispute the charge with WaMu and they had given me some ridicules excuse that they can’t. Direct TV has been giving me the run around and It is now the end of Feb 20th and I have had no luck.

Based on what you say here, you could file suit against them (or at least threaten to do so) in small claims court or in regular court; filing in small claims court is easier and requires no attorney...you could try to collect all of the costs and damages that you suffered due to their behavior... You may also report them to your state attorney general's office.
