Confused Discrimination of any sort is not OK.

I went to a store for some quick shopping.I was not dressed nicely due to the fact that I was on a time restraint and had to leave the house in a rush. When going into the store to pay I handed the lady all small denominations to pay for my items. Upon paying I turned around to look at my friend who was with me. I turned around just in time to see the cashier quickly take a counterfeit marker and mark all of my money including the 10,5 and 1 dollar bills.

I was quite humiliated because I know it is not standard protocol to have anything under a 20 dollar bill marked.

Upon making a complaint to the store they basically said maybe the girl was new and did not know better. They also confirmed it was not standard protocol. I said fine and if she was new and it was a mistake then I would say nothing more about it but to do me one thing first. I asked that I would be able to see the tapes (if she was new) of her transactions and upon seeing that ,If I saw that she marked everyone who were paying in low denominations equally then I would drop it. I also went on to say that if it were not so that I would pursue the matter further because I very much was humiliated at what she had done and felt I was discriminated against because I appeared poor.

I was not making this statement because I wanted to sue them for money! My point out of this was for them to make a change for the better and to ensure that all customers would be able to shop comfortably in their store without the fear of being discriminated against.

They were very much accommodating to me until I asked to see the tapes of all of that particular cashier's transactions to see if she treated everyone equally. Then I heard nothing else from this store. I did not want to make a legal issue out of this. I was just hoping to shake them up enough to change their policy and issue an apology from them and the cashier. Instead I was ignored. I am now quite angry about this and feel that it is not something to be ignored. Discrimination is often times a serious subject when it comes to race or religion but is often not discussed when it comes to a person's economic status.

I want to now do something about this legally but am wondering if I have any recourse?

That was rude it may seem, but was not illegal.
