I see one of my drs. every other week. 2 weeks ago I had an appt. and was informed that I had missed an appt. on 11/18/06. I understand drs. will bill you for visits that you do not give 24 hours notification. Well, I knew I had not missed any appts. I called and told them there had to be some simple clerical error. I was told they pulled the "super-bill", what ever that is and it showed I had had an appt. and they were not going to take it off. I had insurance at the time, but was not working so would not miss an appt. without cancellation. I went to my insurance website and pulled up my claim history. It showed my visits from the end of Sept. to the first of Dec. and I had gone every other week. They paid for services 11/11 and 11/25. I have never gone for 3 visits in a row. The 18th was the week in between. I did a letter on Word and sent it, along with a print out of my insurance and faxed it to their office. I called last Wed. and was told that they had given it to the dr. but she had not had a chance to review it. I have not heard back. By giving it to the dr., to me, it means that they are not going to take it off without the dr. ok. I feel pretty certain she will say no. It shows clearly the pattern of going every other week. If they still insist I pay, and I know I am clearly correct what do I do? It is $90 which I do not have to pay for something that is wrong. She has a high turn over in staff, so obviously who ever made the simple error is long gone. I was also told once that if you miss they cannot let it go so to speak because they can be sued. I do not even see how that is possible. Who would sue them? How would any other patient find out.
Thanks Lexi |

Based on what you say here, you could file suit against them (or at least threaten to do so) in small claims court or in regular court; filing in small claims court is easier and requires no attorney...you could try to collect all of the costs and damages that you suffered due to their behavior... You may also report them to your state attorney general's office.

Thank you for your reply. I have an appointment in the morning of 7/27 so will see what happens. I refuse to pay for something that is incorrect. I am curious to see what a "superbill" is.
