I live in Ontario, Canada. My question is: can I terminate the orthodontic treatment agreement or am I binded to pay the whole amount specified in the agreement even though I will not finish the treatment? I signed an agreement to pay the initial payment for the braces and 24 times a monthly fee and a charge for a retainer. I started the treatment a year ago and I already payed the initial payment and 12 monthly fees and because in 6 months i am going abroad for a few months I want to terminate the treatment at that point. Which means that I would be still owing (according to the agreement) 6 monthly payments and the charge for the retainer (which I will not have made). Am I obliged to pay the whole amount in the agreement or do I have the option of rescinding the contract?

Normally those agreements do require you to keep paying. But they may comprmise and/or must allow you to finish the treatment when you return.

What I find hard to believe that you are bound by this agreement without any possibility to terminate it? For example you lose your teeth or you move abroad or you are not satisfied with the work... and you still have to pay what you signed for? And then what if these situations happen in the total beginning of the treatment. Does it mean that you will pay the dentist the whole amount even though you are not given the services? I hope there are some options for the customer. Otherwise this is unfair. I can imagine that there would be for example a cancellation fee. But to make the patient pay the whole amount and not allow him to terminate the contract? What bothers me the most that I can't find an answer on the Internet. I would think that this must be dealt with in many instances. The most usual cause would be - patient's moving. I do appreciate your answer :-)
