Default Travel Agent not paying rental management company

I recently paid Resort Destination Marketing (a travel agent who runs the website Ski Vacations & Packages for Lodging, Vacation Rentals & Hotels Etc... along with many others) $7,460 for a home in Beaver Creek Co. for a family ski trip. I was contacted yesterday by Prudential Vail Colorado Property Management (the property manager for the home that I rented) who is claiming that Resort Destination is out of business and they havn't paid Prudential anything except a $500 deposit and that I need to pay Prudential another $7,460 and dispute the original charge with my credit card company. I have disputed the charge but I am of the opinion that Prudential let this sub contractor advertise and rent their property and I paid for it in good faith then why is this my problem? Shouldn't Prudential be the one in charge of trying to get their money from their sub contractor? What are my legal rights as a consumer in Colorado in this matter? Thanks.

I am not a lawyer and do not intend to give you legal advice. I do not believe the link of contractor and a sub is applicable in the travel industry. Example, anyone that sells airline tickets (some companies farm out airline ticketing to others) must be bonded. If you paid the agency for the ticket but they never actually ticketed you, the bond in not applicable.

What happened with your dispute? I have a similar situation where a payment wasn't forwarded to the company. My bank is saying I have no legal right to dispute the charge on my cc.
