My daughter currently is living in Ohio. She filed for bankruptcy a month or so ago. Her Ohio lawyer told her not to own a car worth more than $1500 or it could be taken away from her. She will be moving back to Minnesota in March. Minnesota bankruptcy laws say you can own a car up to $3200. All of her debts were incurred in Minnesota.
The car she has now is not in running condition and is listed as one of her debts. The bank in Minnesota still has not repossessed the vehicle. So, question #1: As she will be leaving Ohio soon, what should she do with the car? #2: What is the value of a vehicle she can own while living back in Minnesota? Thank you for any help. |

She should consult closely with her lawyer but she may need to sell it and pay off whatever is still due.
