Default Assets and Bankruptcy in Florida

I am preparing paper work for my bankruptcy. My attorney is out of town. My paperwork appointment is scheduled for his first business day after vacation.

During the initial appointment with my attorney, He said my homestead and car are exempt. Other than my mortgage, my debt is about $37 000 and unsecured. My minimum payments on the accounts exceed my income. My cost of living, which includes only very basic living needs, is almost equal to my income.

This weekend I went to several area thrift stores with a list of household contents I own. The total average selling price of similar items is about $400.

I have two other items with a total value of about $1200 to $1500. They are not necessary items for living or working. However, because of their history, I’d like to keep them. If these are over the allowed asset value, am I able to purchase these from the court/trustee in order to keep them or are they required to be seized and sold by the court?

Talk to the trustee...you are allowed to purchase them in some situations, or have friends or others do so.
