Can I file for chapter 13 if my only source of income is my social security check and I could only pay about $10 a month toward about $30,000 old credit card debt from 1994 and 1996 I dnt want to losemy house as I jointly own a house worth $68,000

You can but review options with an attorney because Ch 7 may also be available for you without any negative consequences.

Thank you, The only reason I asked about 13 over 7 was because I dont want to lose the house I am joint owner with a friend. I am afraid they will consider his social security income toward this, he will not file and wants nothing to do with my bankruptcy as he contributes nothing to me and is not family. I saw a lawter and he said since it was money $30,000 we used as a down payment on the house $68,000 total mortgage amount is $33,000 that they wouldforce a sale ofthe house on chapter 7. My only income is my s.s. check I want to claim my joint ownership share the $20,200 Ohio now has. But the lawyer said no. My friend said he wont even talk to the court.
I inherited the $30,000 and put it on the house in October. I dont see why I cant claim that for the house. I wont file if I cant claim it. No one YET is taking me to court but the old credit card debt from 1994 and 1996 is about $40,000 and I have paid nothing incen1996 as it was ex husbands doing although it was in my name only.
