Confused need to know what it means when no reaffirmation on mortgage happens

In 2005 we filed bankruptcy, we never reaffirmed with our mortgage company and they never reaffirmed with us. We continued to make the payments but now have fell behind, with the possibility of forecloser. If it goes into forecloser and the mortgage company sells the property and does not get what is owed on the loan are we liable for the balance owed or is it considered a part of the bankruptcy? since there was never a reaffirmation by either party, And if it is considered a part of the bankruptcy can we try and sell the home? Thanks

That varies by state.

What state are you in?
